چکیده

Building Energy Performance (BEP) simulation model require significant effort for set up, limiting the potential utilization of modelling both in the design and operational phases. A methodology for semiautomated BEP simulation model creation could make this process much more expedient and as such lower to threshold for the use of such models. Building Information Models (BIM) are an information-rich repository that could be used to streamline and expedite the collection of such information. Concerning the building geometry, the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) can provide static building information that include geometric configuration and material properties, but in a form that might not be directly usable for the generation of thermal simulation models due to the absence of 2-level boundary information. In this paper, a three-step methodology for (semi-) automated generation of thermal simulation models is presented, including: a query on the building data model requesting geometry-related information; a processing of the acquired data by a 2-level boundary identification algorithm, the Common Boundary Intersection Projection (CBIP) algorithm; and a transformation stage that converts the geometry information of IFC, along with the data obtained from the CBIP algorithm, to an EnergyPlus and/or TRNSYS input file, with the latter being the main topic of this paper.

IFC BIM-Based Methodology for Semi-Automated Building Energy Performance Simulation

Building energy performance (BEP) simulation is still rarely used in building design, commissioning and operations. The process is too costly and too labor intensive, and it takes too long to deliver results. Its quantitative results are not reproducible due to arbitrary decisions and assumptions made in simulation model definition, and can be trusted only under special circumstances. A methodo...

Semi-automatic Generation of As-built Bim Façade Geometry from Laser and Image Data

This article outlines a new semi-automatic approach for generating accurate BIM facade models for existing buildings from laser and image data. Two new developments for as-built BIM modelling are presented in this article. The first is a new library of reusable parametric objects designed for modelling classical architectural elements from survey data. These library objects are dynamic and have...

Towards a Topological Reasoning Service for Ifc-based Building Information Models in a Semantic Web Context

One of the classic problems identified in the interdisciplinary use of Building Information Models (BIM) is the different representation requirements regarding topology (Eastman 1999). Although this problem has been addressed in several modeling efforts (Augenbroe 1995) the most widely spread BIM to date (IFC) does not bridge one of the essential gaps, namely that between geometry-centered (use...

Valid Space Description in BIM for 3D Indoor Navigation

The BIM paradigm, supplied by appropriate standards like IFC, became unavoidable in recent construction projects. Several applications (e.g. indoor navigation, energy analysis ...) find in it a source of information on which they can rely. However, practices reveal that BIM models are not always directly reliable for applications and the latter have to ensure the validity of the data by their o...

Specification and Implementation of Ifc Based Performance Metrics to Support Building Life Cycle Assessment of Hybrid Energy Systems

Minimising building life cycle energy consumption is becoming of paramount importance. Performance metrics tracking offers a clear and concise manner of relating design intent in a quantitative form. A methodology is discussed for storage and utilisation of these performance metrics through an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) instantiated Building Information Model (BIM). The paper focuses on ...
